Portulcaria Plant

Portulacaria or Elephant Bush, is a versatile and easy-to-care-for succulent that adds a touch of greenery and elegance to any indoor or outdoor setting. Native to South Africa, this plant is appreciated for its attractive appearance and its ability to thrive in a variety of conditions.

Appearance:

Elephant Bush Plant features small, rounded, glossy green leaves that grow along reddish-brown stems, creating a lush, cascading effect. Mature plants can develop a woody base, adding to their charm. Though often kept as a compact houseplant, it can grow into a shrub or small tree outdoors, reaching heights of up to 10-15 feet under optimal conditions.

Care Requirements:

• Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate direct sunlight. Indoors, place near a sunny window for best growth.
• Watering: Water thoroughly when the soil is dry to the touch. Like most succulents, it is drought-tolerant and prefers to dry out between waterings. Avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot.
• Humidity: Adaptable to various humidity levels but prefers low to moderate humidity. It thrives in typical indoor conditions.
• Temperature: Ideal temperatures range between 65-85°F (18-29°C). It is not frost-tolerant, so protect from cold drafts and freezing temperatures.
• Soil: Use a well-draining succulent or cactus potting mix. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.
• Fertilization: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength during the growing season (spring and summer), once a month.

• Pruning: Prune to shape and control growth. The plant responds well to pruning and can be shaped into bonsai or other forms.
